JSG Dance Fund

For those with a love and appreciation for dance!

In partnership with the St. Charles Park District's Financial Aid Program and Supported by the St. Charles Park Foundation

In memory of Joseph Greenberg’s lifelong passion towards dance, his family created this fund to assist with dance program registrations including recital costume fees and apparel ordered through the St. Charles Dance Academy.

Who Was Joseph Greenberg?

Joseph Greenberg enjoyed and loved dance his whole life. As a young man going off to war near the end of World War II, Joe was stationed for a brief time at The Naval Base at Newport Rhode Island. His job was chasing down unarmed torpedoes that went astray, as they were being tested on their guidance systems. While recalling the many funny stories of things he experienced, he always recalled with his fondest memories a woman named Mrs. Peterson, a hostess at the USO club for sailors. That kind, USO hostess said to Joe, “Why aren’t you dancing sailor?” to which he replied, “I don’t know how!” Mrs. Peterson made a promise in that moment to teach him to dance, which she fulfilled, changing Joe’s life forever. He told that story the rest of his life to all who would listen.
